I love sewing, and recently just found a new love of quilting. I started making my own clothes in my early teens. Not because I loved to sew, but because we were very poor and this was the only way I ever got new clothes. As my skill for making clothes grew, my love for sewing grew, as well. I love sewing, and recently just found a new love of quilting. I started making my own clothes in my early teens. Not because I loved to sew, but because we were very poor and this was the only way I ever got new clothes. As my skill for making clothes grew, my love for sewing grew, as well. I have made over 30 wedding gowns, and designed two, both my own.
I learned mostly from my Mother. She taught me that, "where there is a will, there is a way"……….."if you want to do it, you can". and , "someones trash is someones treasure". She would overhaul some "hand me down", and make it look like new. Making me so proud to wear one of her treasures. She is the mother of ten children, and her biggest gift, was to give each child, grandchild, and yes, great-grandchilden a quilt for a special occassion. Her quilt has given me, my children and my grandchilden lots of memories and joy. I want to be able to do the same for my own children.
Over the years, I dabbled in the quilting craft leaving several "unfinished blocks" behind. I finally decided to try my hand and finish a project. It was a New York Yankee's quilt, for my grandson's 8th. birthday. He was totally delighted, which made me so happy. It was then, I understood the joy my mother received from giving a quilt.
I am looking forward to learning from others and seeing your beautiful teasures. To all my quilter new friends, have a blessed time quilting.
