Self-taught, launched from watching my mom do cakes for extra money when I was a kid. The main rules I go by in baking is "it's not rocket science - you can do it" and "if you don't try something that scares you every day, you're not growing". I love 'cake as art': anything you can cover with fondant, buttercream or gumpaste and make it look more like art than something you eat is my fascination.
