Learned to sew originally on a Singer treadle about age 5 or 6. and on electric sewing machines in three "Home Economics" classes - like most all female students who graduated in the 60's. My mother bought my sister and I each a sewing machine when we were 13; Cherri in 1960, and mine in 1964 from a school sewing machine supplier.
