Materials

Red Cotton, Black cotton, Felt, Pipe Cleaner for antennae, polyester fiberfill. Purchased clothing. The hat came from a pattern: Simplicity # 0817.

What was your inspiration?

Zoe often says "I'm a ladybug," so I decided to make her a ladybug costume for Halloween.

What are you most proud of?

She won in a costume contest for "Best Home Made Costume."

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I started with a large round shape, about 3 feet wide, then put in darts to make it shell shaped. I had to experiment until I got the right shape. The dots are felt. I made shoulder straps and a waist tie to hold it on her. It is stuffed with polyester fiberfill. I added a pair of legs in the middle. The idea is that her arms and legs make four, and the pair on the shell make 5 and 6 legs.
