Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sewing With Knits: 5 Wardrobe Essentials »

Instructions

I used the cheapie fleece to make a wearable mock up. I will definitely invest in some non synthetic material for the next one, but I'm happy with how it turned out. Next time I will add some length to the front because I have such a huge stomach. Oh yeah, the flannel patches on the front are covering up a huge mistake I made. My pockets are so uneven!

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Casual, Outdoorsy

Materials

4 way stretch poly fleece

What was your inspiration?

Meg and the seeing with knit's class. I am a convert and plan on making a bunch of stuff in knit fabric. So fun!

What are you most proud of?

Making it into a zippered hoodie. I needed to be able to get in and out of it quickly. It's such an easy project to modify and play with. I also lined the hood.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Watch the class. Meg has some good pointers and takes the scary out of it all. This class is fab.

I love how you lined the hood, what a great pop of colour in such an unexpected place. Originally I wanted to make a black hoodie, but I was afraid it would be too boring, now I know how to make it black AND fun!

Very nice version of the hoodie. I was asked to make it a zip-up but don't possess the skill, yet.

Thanks, zippers aren't too hard. "Sew mama sew" has an excellent tutorial on installing zippers.

Really cool, especially the patches ;-) Did you stabilize it somehow before putting in the zip? Would love to learn more about that.

Hi. Yes, to make it easier, I just used a straight stitch down both sides of the center front, about 1/4 inch in from the edge. I did not have any problems with stretching while adding the zipper. You could also use steam a seam strips. They are thin enough it wouldn't make sewing through the extra "layer" too bad.

I like the fact that you lined the hood. When I make one that's what I want to do also. I am also a fan of zippers. Nice job!!!
