What was your inspiration?
This hat was inspired by the lovely berets of the late 30s and early 40s. You can work it in a classic beret size or a bit bigger for a slouchier more modern hat. It's knit with one strand each of fingering wool and kid mohair to give it a nice vintage feel and halo while keeping your head warm. The chevron lace adds even more classic charm and interest.
What are you most proud of?
I'm really happy with how the crown shaping turned out.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Get yourself a ball of mohair and use up some of your fingering yarn. The simlpe lace pattern is easy to memorize and your new hat will be finished in no time! It's so fast, you might even want to knit a second one as a gift for a dear friend.
