What was your inspiration?
Inspired by royal wedding and the crazy hats worn by the aristocrats and royals. I took it a step or two further with fun objects that one could wear to weddings, bar mitzvahs, garden parties, gallery soirees, end-of-the-world parties, or murder trials.
If you're more of a shrinking violet, beware: These hats definitely will make you the center of attention. Be ready to have your picture taken and chat about your hat.
What are you most proud of?
Being the first one on Etsy with way artsy found object-type fascinators.
Etsy is the real deal when it comes to clever crafts and insta-entrepeneurial crafty cleverness. If you can get the jump on others and come up with something no one else is selling yet, pat yourself on the back and buy yourself a congratulatory cocktail, because you've really accomplished something.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Be creative. Sky's the limit. Proceed with reckless abandon and go nuts with the decorations, but think light objects. Also, definitely don't substitute a pin for a hair comb, or it will slide right off your head.
Make a party out of it: Invite some ladies over for a tea party/make-your-own tea hat assemblage. This activity, plus a little sex pistols thrown into the ipod, will help keep the tea party from being stiff or stuffy.
