Knitting: Ydemark's Clarus
6 kudoz

Ydemark's Clarus

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Knit This: Mastering Lace Shawls »

Instructions

Used a DK weight yarn and used size 7 needle, even though I was on gauge with the size 6 needle. It opened up the lace pattern a bit more. Can't stress enough to use those lifelines and markers. It was an enjoyable knit and I love the end results.

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Classic, Casual, Holiday, Religious, Victorian / Steampunk, Romantic, Traditional, Retro / Vintage

Materials

String Theory Hand Dyed Yarn, Merino DK in Earthquake colorway.

What was your inspiration?

Laura Nelkin's infectious enthusiasm.

What are you most proud of?

I actually made this!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The pattern is available with Laura Nelkin's class Mastering Lace Shawls. You can also purchase it on Ravelry or by visiting Laura's website. Don't have the exact website address, just google Laura Nelkin and I'm sure you'll find it. Let me know if you have trouble and I'll get you the exact address.

Nope. I was on gauge with the size 6 needle but Laura suggested I go to a size 7 to open it up a bit. The DK weight I used seemed a bit thinner than some other DK weights I have seen. I didn't worry about running out of yarn as I was doing the small size. So, just make sure you have enough yarn for the size you'll be knitting. Good luck and post a picture when you finish so we can all see it.

Ok thank you! Your shawl is so gorgeous! If mine comes out anything close to yours I will be happy.

Because you used a DK weight, besides switching needle size anything else you had to do differently? I'm thinking of using a DK weight sock yarn from Cherry Tree Hills and was just curious.

Thats beautiful! Can't wait till I finish Skywalker and start on Clarus. I'm also using String Theory for Clarus but in Didgeridoo. Seeing yours gives me an idea what mine might look like. Did you do the small or large version of Clarus?

I did the small shawl. Keep in mind, that colors vary depending upon your monitor, etc. I took this picture in early morning light. It is much darker, closer to a deep wine with a multitude of jewel-tone colors throughout. Clarus was a snap compared to Skywalker ....in my opinion. Have fun with yours. :)

Thank you. It is a bit deeper in person. The picture was taken in early morning natural light.

Thank you, Laura, for your suggestion to use a size 7 needle and for not discouraging me to use a DK weight. This yarn ROCKS!
