Type of item: Home Decor

left-over fabrics, dark brown fabric, and typical quilting tools.
What was your inspiration?
I was inspired by an airplane seat fabric. I was on a plane and had finished my book so I started doodling. By the time the plane landed the Y-not tumbling block was born.
What are you most proud of?
This tumbling block quilt is made without Y seams, and uses normal quilting tools. The blocks are strip priced and rotary cut. No special templates needed, no paper piecing, no cutting out little diamonds.
I love taking a traditionally difficult technique and finding a simpler way to make it.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Fabric choice is crucial to get the 3-D effect. You need light fabrics and medium fabrics. If you can't decide if a fabric is a light or a medium, then put it back in your stash. It doesn't have enough contrast to get the right effect.
