Topper is done.

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Machine Quilting: Free-Motion & More »

Instructions

I also use Diane Hill's instruction book "Creating the Native American Star Quilt and Eleanor Burns book "Radiant Star Quilt"

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Children

Style: Traditional

Materials

Old Daisy Kingdom materials They always had such wonderful Christmas fabrics. My sister has bins full and I chose from them.

What was your inspiration?

My sister Theresa Burns. She has been making quilts for eons! We have been sewing since our teens. I sewed garments.. she sewed quilts. For the past 15 years I have been sewing for a fashion designer and pattern maker. Never a quilt! I can sew circles around my sister where everyday garments are concerned.. dress jackets.. to swimming suits.. so I wanted to learn something NEW.

What are you most proud of?

It looks wonderful and #1 daughter won the draw Christmans eve. It is hers now. 4 more kids to go this year.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

take your time. Be spot on with your cutting and seams. Have a good sewing machine with the long arm for anything over a baby quilt in size. This project made me get out there and buy a new sewing machine I had been promising myself for YEARS. Thank you Santa! (my partner surprised me with it as he had been watching me struggle with my old old pfaff).

Give this one a try! Seriously, it is simple to do step by step. This is my first quilt! I took my time and I am very happy with it. If you need advise on this style I can help!

This pattern does not need to be for only a Christmas quilt. I can imagine it would make a beautiful wall hanging.

yes it would as a smaller star. This one is Queen size. The number of rows determine the end size.

Join me then and start quilting. It is a very simple quilt to do once you have mastered the basics. I have been an avid sewer all my life but wanted to learn something new. So here it is!! by the way.. I am 67. Never to old to learn something new.

No download pattern. I used Diane Hill's "Native American Star Quilts" and "Radiant Star Quilt" (out of print but I found a copy at Powell Bookstore in Portland Ore. they send anywhere) it is by Eleanor Burns. She has a more recent book but I listened to my sister who said the 1st book was the best for a beginner. With suggestions from both book mine went together really good. I am just finishing the binding this weekend. All machine quilting.. I will have to post another pic soon.
