Wrapped Sonoran Sunrise Pendant

Category: Jewelry

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Traditional, Formal / Bridal, Romantic, Classic, Casual, Whimsical, Holiday, Eco-Friendly

Materials

Freeform Sonoran Sunrise Cabochon, Argentium Sterling Wire

What was your inspiration?

This stone is so stunning but the finish is matte, rather than a high polish. I wanted to use enough wire to add bling without covering the beauty of the stone.

What are you most proud of?

Keeping the stone fairly free from wire.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be afraid to try using wire. Once you get the basics down, the sky's the limit!

I love your use of wire to add "bling" but not to cover the stone. It's perfect. So often the artist is intent on demonstrating what they can do with wire and completely cover or overpower the stone.

Thank you. It's sort of my trademark style. I believe the stone should be the focal, not the wrap. I use enough wire to secure the stone but that's all. There are some stones that have to have more wire on the face, but for the most part, I can leave them free. I also believe that the back of the wrap should look as good as the front.

I am a believer too in "less is more." When I see the face of the stone more or less covered in swirls and twirls of excess wire

Ahh, I rarely use my flat nose, I should dig them out and try them! You have a beautiful command of the wire!

It is gorgeous! What is your favorite tool to use to make this?

Thank you! The tools I use most are flat nosed pliers, round nose pliers and nippers. I make the larger swirls with my fingers.
