Wonky Christening Cake

Instructions

I found this difficult as I made the cakes so deep I had trouble with them baking and trying not to burn them. Had several attemps before I got it right and now think that they were a little deeper than they needed to be but hey it was all eaten.

Difficulty:

Category: Cake Decorating

Type of item: Food

For: Girls

Materials

Lemon and chocolate orange marble cakes, marzipan and fondant icing. Moulds for the teddies and the christening dress.

What was your inspiration?

This cake was for my grandaughter and she loves teddies so took my inspiration from that.

What are you most proud of?

I think the teddies, although I used a small silicone mould for them it took for ever to make them as after taking them out and because they were so small I had to go around the edges with a sharp tool to finish off. I think it probably took me four hours in all to make the teddies but they looked lovely.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have all your equipment sorted out before starting and if working on a wonky cake it is easier to work on from partially frozen. I always make my sponges in advance and freeze them anyway so when I am ready to decorate them I don't have to worry about the cake as it is already done.
