What was your inspiration?
I have always loved crop tops. They haven't always loved me. I am really into stripes right now. At first, I just made the top without the cut out. It was cute, but really needed something to make it special. I read an article, and for the life of me, I can't remember where, about doing cutouts on knit fabric. I first cut the shape of the heart out of knit interfacing. Then I traced that same shape onto the mesh and cut it out. First, I decided where to put the heart. Then I ironed the knit interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric. Next, I sewed the mesh over the knit interfacing on the wrong side. I turned the shirt right side out and cut the heart inside the stitch line. It's a little sexier having the see thru mesh too!
