Styrofoam dummy cakes. 2 different cake recipies. Buttercream, fondant and gumpaste. Cake decorating tools.
What was your inspiration?
My inspiration was the CakeCentral website where cake artists of all levels, and from all over the world share their accomplishments and techniques. In the past year I have learned much from this site and wanted to try some of the techniques for the first time.
What are you most proud of?
It's hard to cite just one thing. I tried the billow tufting for the first time and am very happy with the way it turned out. I sculpted the bottom, my first major attempt at doing this. The flowers are no particular type, I just "winged" them and was pleased with how delicate and soft they turned out. I guess I am most proud of how I was able to meet this challenge that I gave myself. It is by far the most complicated cake I have made to date.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Give yourself LOTS of time. I put this together, with no assistance, over a period of 10 days, taking my time to perfect the details. I worked approximately 6 to 8 hours each day.
