Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this cake: This idea came from the Wilton.com website. It uses the 3D teddy bear cake pan and I made the hearts out of 50/50 fondant and gum paste rather than a cookie. Arms are made on cookie sticks and there is some carving to be done on the bear (removing ears and arms). Note the cake must be very firm (like a pound cake) to support the cookie stick arms. There are directions on the website for this as well.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Cover the body with a thin layer of the same color frosting before beginning to add the "fur"--that way if there is a gap in between stars anywhere it is much less noticeable. For the body, start the pulled stars at the bottom and work your way up. Arms I did from the hands down once I reached the underarm area on the body, then proceeded upward, with the top of the head last.

Thanks--it was a lot of fun to make. You're right it does take time--took me almost 2 hours to pipe the entire cake.
