I used this pattern as a base for the bag I made. Making the eyes is a simple crocheted round to desired size and embroidering the eyelashes or embellishing with buttons. My bag is longer, you can do this by making your foundation chain longer and just following the directions for the corner chains. Depending on how tight your stitches are, lining may not be necessary. If you do make a lining, it's a simple drop in.
*You cut two pieces of fabric 1 inch wider around than the bag measurements (only measure the height from the bottom to just under the handle since you wouldn't want your lining sticking out or encroaching on the use of the handles). **Ex: My bag height from under handle to bottom is 11" and the width is 14". I would cut my two liner pieces at 12x15.
*With right sides together, sew the lining up both sides and around 1 of the longer sides using a 1/2" seam allowance. Leave one open as this is the top of the bag. If you are adding a pocket, do so now. Clip your corners and trim the edges closer to 1/4" to cut down on bulk.
*Fold over the top edge half an inch (to the wrong side) and press again.
*Drop your lining into your purse and attach using a ladder stitch.
