White Frill Design Wedding Cake

White Frill Design with Black Tie Accent

White Frill Design with Black Tie Accent
Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Cake Decorating

Type of item: Food

For: Women

Style: Romantic, Mod

Materials

Fondant & SugarPaste

What was your inspiration?

The bride's dress was a cascade of ruffles from top to bottom. She wanted a simple pop of color, so I added the hand-sculpted mint green sugarpaste peony.

What are you most proud of?

This was my first attempt at the technique of making a frill cake and many people commented that it ended up looking more clean and nicer than the artist's rendition that I was pulling the technique from.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

You must know how to work with a 50/50 combination of fondant and gumpaste and put aside atleast 6 hours to make just the frills.

I've been a cake decorator for many years, now doing it just for friends, relatives. Made many a wedding cake, but with the latest technique of fondant cakes, this is absolutely beautiful. Lovely work. You are an artist.

That means so very much to me. Thank you, truly. :) I just started making cakes about a year and a half ago full time. Before that it was just for friends and family as you mentioned. Self-taught and I love what I do and making brides happy. I appreciate your compliments.

Fabulous! I know that's a ton of work, making all those ruffles. But it was worth it. It's absolutely gorgeous!

Be very proud of that one...beautiful. What tool did you use to make the ruffle?

I hand cut every single ruffle from a 50/50 sugarpaste/fondant mix by rolling out 2 1/2 foot sections and trimming then with a rolling cutter, one side straight edge and one side wavy. Wilton makes them. After cutting out the strips I used a stick to then out the edges. It was tedious but achieved the effect. :) And thank you for the compliment. It is much appreciated.
