What was your inspiration?
This was a quilt for my sister. I knew she loved purples and blues so I started there. She loves Whidbey Island so the fabric includes purple for the water at night; blue with shells for the beach; purple and teal with hexagons for rain on the windows; teal and silver for rain; and a ginkgo leaf border. It was machine quilted by Brenda Anderson of Portland, OR, with ginkgo leaves and dragon flies.
What are you most proud of?
She loved it!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Just enjoy the process and don't be afraid to change fabrics if the overall look doesn't work. I sewed the first four rows, then re-evaluated my fabrics, swapped one out and started over and I love the finished look.
