Quilting: What was I thinking?

What was I thinking?

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Funky

Materials

I used a Jelly-roll of batik fabrics.

What was your inspiration?

The fabric caught my eye - and is still catching it! It's a bit 'shocking' if I was honest with myself - not sure what i was thinking when I bought the fabric (inexperience i would suggest...).

What are you most proud of?

Problem solving! When I sewed the strips together I started at the top and sewed down - all 40 or so of them. I ended up with a huge twisted mess (won't be making this error again). From this mess I managed to create a perfectly 'square' rectangle quilt - quite a challenge. Go me!!
Also, this was one of my first attempts to 'free motion' the quilting and i'm quite pleased with this too.

Thank you - I'm almost finished two more quilts and then I might try another one with bright colours. Just not enough hours in the day :)

I love the colors to, maybe you could have added a 3 or 4 inch border of one of the calm colors to give the eye somewhere to rest. You did a beautiful job and it is very cheerful give yourself a big pat on the back.

That is a great idea - it does need a border. I'll think about how i can do this without creating a major job - any suggestions would be helpful.

Beautiful. I want to put some of those blues and purples in a quilt soon.

Love it! The rainbow effect is wonderful. Sometimes it really pays off to step outside of our comfort zones. The same old palette can get monotonous, and bit of a shake-up can help us grow.
