What needles did you use? US 6 / 4.0 mm / UK 8

What are you most proud of? I am new to knitting and this is my first sweater after only knitting a bundle of cowls. Whale and Anchor chart here:

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Don't try to change your stitch and row gauge if you are new to knitting (unless you're awesome at math).
