Welted Tweed Sweater

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
The Perfect Fit Seamless Crazy Lace Cardigan »

Instructions

I used the basic idea from this class... a top-down seamless sweater. Then I kind of went off and had some fun. (I hope it's ok that I didn't use lace in this project... I used welts of alternating knit and purl rows, instead.)

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Casual, Funky, Cute

Materials

Cascade 220 Tweed (90% Peruvian Highland Wool, 10% Donegal)

What was your inspiration?

The top-down seamless sweater was my inspiration for this project.

What are you most proud of?

I'm happy that this worked out well... it fits and it's very comfy.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun... after all, that what knitting is about, right?! Don't be afraid to try something new, and especially be willing to "frog" when something isn't working out... rip it, rip it , rip it... and knit some more.

Love the colour and welts. How do you do welts?

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Welts are easy... in this case, on the body of the sweater, I worked 5 rows of Rev St st (in other words, I purled them), then I worked 8 rows of St st (I knit them). You can just make a swatch and see how you want you welts to look. You may want to do them even: 5 (or however many you want) rows purl, 5 rows knit, for the desired length. Hope that helps.

That's lovely. Surely the whole point of these workshops is to go off the beaten track once you've mastered the basics? You have certainly done that very stylishly.
