Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Functional

For: Children

Style: Casual

Materials

Cotton twill, denim and quilting fabric

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to make a weighted blanket for the autistic children I work with. I started with the March BOM since the design creates a strong double layer. I used the denim I have stashed for years to make the back both durable and heavy. I did not use any batting and poured poly pellets into each 6" square, making a quilt that weighs about 6 pounds for use by a child of about 60 pounds.

What are you most proud of?

It seems to work.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Research weighted blankets.

I have to try this! I also work in education and make weighted blankets for my colleagues, but I only used fleece. Now I have an idea for a child that is very special to all of us.
