What was your inspiration?
My daughter's wedding!
What are you most proud of?
The sheer amount of time I took over this, and working out how to get the underpinnings and outer layers all working together! All the lace had to be cut into separate motifs and handsewn onto the tulle to get the right proportions for my tiny daughter. We had seen that in most of the dresses she tried on in shops, she was swamped by the quantity of lace, or by the proportions of the skirt. I was also inordinately delighted by the bustled effect when the dress was adjusted for dancing!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Don't be daunted: all these couture techniques are well worth the time, and all the prep. No one believed I'd made the dress myself!
