Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Materials

Crepe back satin, silk organza.

What was your inspiration?

To make a really nice wedding dress. I am getting married in two weeks. I posted on the dress earlier, and got some wonderful comments. I wanted to update but don't know how to do that without starting another project post. Unfortunately after I put in the zipper it developed a weird dimple in the bust that I don't know how to fix. I am feeling very sad about it tonight. I may sell my sewing machine on Ebay.

What are you most proud of?

I did all the work and learned a lot.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't make anything with darts! Use princess seams - they look better in the finished project.

Now I've finished the dress ... and got a huge water spot on the bust in the final pressing. Anybody got any ideas how to fix this?

I'm getting there. Working on lining and hoping to have it done today. Wedding a week away!

This is lovely, your fabric choice and use of contrasting sides (it appears) is inspired. I've never Neenah tempted by the pattern pics, but now I want this pattern and to make one just like yours. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I found your earlier project posting where you discussed how you blended the two patterns. This is an original! And as your wedding dress, never to be copied, only admired. Best wishes for a beautiful, happy day. I know that you will be gorgeous in this gown.

Hallelujah! I redid the front bust seam and took the zipper in an inch in the upper back. Now it fits like the dress I envisioned. Thanks to Susan Khalje and all the other Craftsy peeps for their encouraging words.

The dress is lovely and perfectly suited for its purpose! Don't give up on it, just take a deep breath and look at it the next day when you are fresh. Hope everyone's advice helps, but I love the idea of your cameo. Sometime later you could fiddle with the seam if you feel you need to, but it is such a tiny part of the beautiful dress and won't be noticed.

Here is another video that can help with the front seam. Needle and thread choice are important. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijz_j7UXOik&feature=colike

That front center bodice seam is so short, maybe you could re-sew it by hand using a backstitch? Like with the zipper insertion, it may give you the control you need to be 100% certain you don't get the dimple. It's worth the effort -- otherwise, the dress is gorgeous and perfect for an early fall wedding. Good luck!

Backstitch sounds like a good idea.

It looks lovely, and the dimple doesn't seem that noticeable. Maybe take Susan's advice and ask a tailor or dressmaker? Or take out the center seam on the bodice piece and smooth it out? Put on a pretty broach or piece of trim? (search "art deco" trim on Etsy to find things that would go with your '30's style dress.) The dress looks great--don't give up.

I think you'll be able to fix it, and I like the simplicity of the dress as it is. If you got to a point where you felt you wanted to cover it, the Etsy shop called "TextileArtLace" has beautiful antique lace appliques, and she's a fast shipper.

Thanks. I appreciate the encouraging words. I do have a cameo that could hide it. I may give fixing the seam a go too.

Hey just walk away for the night. Then grab a coffee after breakfast tomorrow and watch this fabulous video clip. Then give those darts a try again. Here is the video clip address http://www.threadsmagazine.com/item/9496/mark-a-dart-and-learn-a-no-tie-finish

Thanks. I'm having that cup of coffee now as nd I'll say a few prayers in church before I tackle it. I'll watch the video. The darts are okay. I may need to take out the front bodice seam. It's not so bad as I first thought.
