-Start with a plain pair of shoes (patent leather platforms were used in this project). -Using a glue gun and starting at the middle bottom of the heel (if you choose to cover the heal), run a strip of glue across the bottom and stretch the lace against it. Hold until secure. -Stretch the lace across the heal and cut to fit (leaving enough to roll for a clean seam. glue into place. -Stretch upwards and glue where heel meets base of shoe- do not make an seem here. Simply trim just a little past the seem. -(If you have chosen a platform, as was used in this project, cover the platform the same way). -Starting at at back of shoe, cover the base of the shoe in the same manner; make a seam with your lace, make a line of glue across seam of shoe/ bottom, and stretch the lace across. -Once the lace has been glued all along the bottom, cut to size. -Make a seam at back and glue into place at seam of shoe. -Run glue a long top of shoe from back to front (work in small lengths at a time) and stretch lace across it. Don't not glue toe right away. -Once you have made it to the toe area, glue other side in the same manner. -Once only the toe is left, fold the fabric to make a pretty dart on each side of the shoe and glue the rest into place. -After the shoes are covered glue a purchased trim around the top of the shoe. -To make the accent flowers, cut a long thin oval out of satin (around 5 inches), fold lengthwise and press (good side out). Sew along cut edge and then gather sewn end tightly. Roll as you gather to make the shape of the flower and then sew through to ensure it is sturdy. Make 4 of these. -Glue offside on the shoe. All the beautiful $300 shoes I wouldn't allow myself to buy since I am back in school again.
What are you most proud of?
The clean lines.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
The glue is very hot! Be careful with your fingers.
If your dress needed to be shortended, ask for the leftovers and make the flowers out of that material. This way you will have something consistent between your dress and shoes.
