Wedding Cake

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Cake Decorating

Type of item: Food

For: Women

Style: Formal / Bridal

Materials

Rich Fruit Cake, marzipan and fondant icing

What was your inspiration?

The bride wanted something simple but elegant to go with her colour scheme so the brooches were elegant and the ribbons matched the colour scheme and the overall look was very simple

What are you most proud of?

The finish of the cake. I am not happy to have defects on my cakes so finish is all important to me and of course a happy couple

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Always make sure you have a lovely smooth finish on the cake before decorating. Fill in any holes or defects with marzipan before adding the marzipan layer and then smooth smooth with an icing smoothing tool before adding the fondant. If you get the marzipan smooth then it is much easier to get the right finish when applying the icing and on a simple cake this is very important to the look as you cannot hide any defects.

Kim this cake is very stunning! May I ask, are the brooches handmade? If so what mold did you use? Keep up the great work!
