What was your inspiration?
This necklace is part of what I am calling my Heat Wave Collection. The result of it being too hot to do much else than stay inside with the a/c on and make jewelry.
I have made the suggestion before to go through your bead inventory from time to time and see what jumps out at you and says "put us together." That was the case with these colorful Turqouise Howlite chips and the 3-pc Moss Agate pendant. Together they looked and felt like a summer party. The Moss Agate pendant reminds me very much of those wonderful, dark-green, round "Ice Box" watermelons that my children so enjoyed in the summers of their childhood. We'd all sit out on our front porch steps, eating that lovely, sweet, ice-cold watermelon out of hand, with the juice dripping down our chins, growing stickier by the minute! The children would see who could spit the watermelon seeds the furthest. That often led to watermelon vines coming up in the strangest places in our yard, but, much to the kids' disappoinntment, the melons seldom matured before the first frost got them. This Watermelon Party necklace and earrings, however, should be perfectly fun to wear all the way through the rest of the summer.
What are you most proud of?
That the necklace just looks like summertime fun.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Go through your bead inventory from time to time and see what's in there that you may have forgotten about. These colorful Turquoise Howlite beads have been in my inventory for several months and I had never quite decided what to do with them. The Moss Agate pendant had been purchased more than a year ago when my younger daughter saw a $65 Moss Agate necklace at a craft show that she liked and asked if I could make a similar one for her. I bought lots of Moss Agate beads and several pendants for a lot less than $65 and made my daughter a beautiful necklace that she loves. This pendant was left over and just sitting in my inventory until I visualized it as part of the Watermelon Party.
