Instructions

I learned to make this from the book "Real Life Journals: Designing and using handmade books" by Gwen Diehn.

Tinyurl is a link to amazon.

Difficulty:

Category: Paper Crafts

Type of item: Functional

For: Unisex

Style: Whimsical, Classic, Traditional

Materials

Hand-dyed fabric(made by me), chip board, glue, Arches 140lb cold press paper, card stock, high quality printing paper

What was your inspiration?

I want to start a journal and I dabble in watercolors. I thought it would be fun to make one and use my hand-dyed fabrics.

What are you most proud of?

The whole thing really but I love the paper I made (or rather designed?) for the writing sections. I made the lined pages using very high quality printing paper and using Corel drew the lines very close together.

There are 12 signatures (sections). Six watercolor and six lined journal sections so you can not only make illustrations on the watercolor paper but also use it as a written diary.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun! And use it! As you can see I haven't yet but I'm going to very soon!

Any ideas for closures?

This is so beautifully done. I would like to know what size this is and if you had to alter the binding so it would fold to the back? I would really like to try this. Thanks, Marty

What a wonderful project. It is beautiful - and best of all you used your hand dyed fabrics for it.

Well done, it looks lovely! I'm not sure if I would be brave enough to start a project like this one :)

It really isn't as hard as it looks. It just takes a little patience. If you reall want to try it, just start with inexpensive materials.
