What materials did you use? Cotton fabrics I could find with nature themes and prints.

What are you most proud of? That I could get the perspective right.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? It's much easier than it would seem. I used a muslin base and started from the back with layers of fabrics cut to shape. Although his trail is straight, I would make it curvy the next time.

Wow! when I grow up (?!!) I want to be ab le to do something similar. Now, in earnest... What size is it? did you draw the picture and then placed pieces of fabric? I have no clue on how to make this.

It's probably about 16" x 24". It took me months to get the courage to start. I kept buying fabric that might work. Finally I sat down one day, looked at the photo and layed the sky on the muslin. Then I chose a fabric for the farthest mountain and tried to copy the shape. I just cut with my scissors and then laid it on top of the sky. I worked my way forward until I had the layout.

And then... did you appliqu by hand or by machine? Or did you just sew it as if strip piecing. And... did you quilt it? sorry to ask so many questions, but I really find it interesting and it sets my mind off to make something like it, but I have no clue. Thanks in advance.

No problem. I ended up hand sewing over the raw edges in order to attach the front to the backing. I did this because after hanging for a few months the front sagged and created wrinkles. Quilting to begin with would eliminate that problem. I was trying to leave the pieces with an open feel.

Forgot a step. At first I used fusible interfacing to attach the pieces to the backing. Later I hand appliqued the edges.
