Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this cake: The bottom tier(roulette wheel) is real cake...the other 2 round and 2 cube tiers are cake dummies. the bottom board is a large cake drum which had a partially drilled hole/divet(2 thirds through) for the main wooden dowel to be inserted and this was held in place with hot glue using a glue gun. also used the drill for the holes in the cake dummies as these are a dense material...we just slid the roulette tier down the dowel. We used dry oasis(which was wrapped in cling film/plastic wrap) and covered in fondant to make a wedge to give the bottom tier support and give to elevate the bottom cake at an angle. The dollar bills were printed out on wafer/rice paper as was the Vegas sign. We cut around the vegas sign and stuck this to a piece of core foam and cut the shape by using an exacto/stanley knife, then we inserted 3 small toothpicks into the bottom of this just about half way and then placed on the top dummie and pushed it through. We used royal icing to do some detail work such as the dots on the Poker chip (tiers) and also for the writing. The other decorations are made from different colours of gumaste. We airbrushed all the tiers and the poker table (base board) in the varies colours and finished off airbrushing with pearl lustre dust and vodka solution to give it a shine. This was our first "topsy turvy" cake and there was things that we learnt along the way and definitely things we would do different if we need to make another like this. We made this for a customer who didn't want to spend big money as it was to do with the "vegas" theme and taking her partner on holiday....so we struck a deal that left us with getting the cake back...so we can now work at it and fix up a new bottom tier and keep it as a display ;-)
