What was your inspiration?

Alabama Babies - dolls made in the early 1900s by Ella Smith (1899-1932)

What are you most proud of?

I've made this doll before (my own design/pattern), but this year's Hoffman Challenge fabric has a very large print. I decided to break it up by using a weaving technique. It was challenging, but I like the look.

Thank you! I've done this challenge for about 10 years - I think this year is the 25th anniversary of the challenge. Every year, a team from Hoffman Fabrics chooses an upcoming fabric design and then issues a challenge to quilt, clothing, and doll makers to create original items using the fabric. The entries are juried, and a team of judges chooses the award winners. Over the following year, selected quilts, clothing and dolls are exhibited by quilt and other fiber guilds, shops, museums, and textile shows across the US and Canada. I've got photos of quite a few Hoffman dolls on my website: www.blueherondolls.com
