What was your inspiration?
Granddaughters! This stretchy little hat fit until she was almost a one-year old and definitely looked cuter over time with chunky cheeks and a big smile! There are actually two different babies photographed for this project, but they are both, now, my one-year old granddaughter cousins, and one wore the hat through the winter months. It stretches to 17-18 inches around.
What are you most proud of?
A combination of easy stitches make this hat look unique. The picot edging is just knit stitches and yarn overs and forms a nice border for the hem. I chose to put the ribbing a little higher just for something different. The knit stitches on the ribbing are knit through the back loop. I also like offering outfits and accessories (other than the Marine Dress Blues) that have no removable choking hazards. I am always thinking of safety first, then fashion!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Bernat Baby Sport (#3) or Softee Baby will work well for this project. The project uses less than a skein with enough left over for other projects or coordinating accessories.
I used double pointed needles for the hat, but circular needles may also be used, either very short ones, or by using the magic loop method.
