Vintage Stitches

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Embroidery

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Traditional

Materials

32-ct. Vintage Examplar linen by Lakeside Linen; Soie d??Alger, Silk 'n' Colors, Needlepoint Inc. and Gloriana silks; Gloriana perles and wools; Bijoux and Kreinik metallics; beads and charms. The box was handmade by a friend of mine and is made of oak with rosewood accents.

What was your inspiration?

I'm a collector. I collect patterns from certain designers the way some people collect coins. But when I found this pattern--and when my best stitching buddy bought me the specialty thread kit--I knew it would have to go to the top of my stash.

What are you most proud of?

This piece won first place in the embellished sampler category at the 2010 Boulder County Fair--and then it won best in class for the advanced/professional category. It wasn't as big or as intricate as some of the other pieces that year, but the judge was impressed by the quality of workmanship, which had me bursting with pride. :-)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

JUST DO IT! If you can read a chart, you can do this project. Jeannette's instructions are super easy to understand, and the stitches are charted out really nicely.

Thank you! I loved doing this one--especially knowing it was going in a box made specially for it.

You do excellent work, how many stitches per inch? It seems to be alot.

The fabric count was 32-count, so most of the cross-stitch sections were 16 stitches per inch. Some of the cross-stitch was over one, so those were 32 stitches per inch. There were a lot of other types of stitches, and some of these were over five or six threads--those went fast! I have a light that I shine right over my work and the pattern was really detailed, so it was easy to see where all the stitches go!
