Make It

This project was made from an independent Craftsy designer's pattern:
Vintage French 1950's Style PinUp Corset »

Instructions

This pattern was great- very few fitting modifications. Mrs. Depew has wonderful sewing tutorials if you need any help!

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Funky, Romantic, Retro / Vintage

Materials

Silk brocade, silk organdy, poly satin, spiral steel boning, grommets, two sided ribbon

What was your inspiration?

I was inspired by a 1950's era brooch that belonged to my grandmother, actually. All the fabrics and notions were in my stash, and they went together so beautifully that it just had to be. The combination reminds me of Mardi Gras, as well as a tip of the hat to the Year of the Dragon.

What are you most proud of?

I am proud to have a fantastic garter belt that I made myself. I am also proud that I finally had the guts to cut into those fabrics!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Dive in! The pattern is so easy to work with, with such beautiful results. You won't be disappointed!

I love the colors! So beautiful (and like you said, they do remind me of Mardi Gras). You also just gave me inspiration to cut up an old, ill-fitting, brocade dress I made years ago and put the fabric to better use!!!

Glad to help out! It's a great way to use cool fabric that would otherwise wallow in obscurity. I love this garter belt!
