How precious! I never though to use solid in the middle - I will attempt to make one for my great-niece. I hope I can do the quilting - that has been my major downfall - everything always wads up on the backing and I ruin my quilt. Thank you for posting! Really cute!

Thank you for your kind comments. I know that for me, when I've ended up with a wad of thread on the back of the quilt was when I forgot to lower the presser foot, so maybe that could be it? When I quilt either free-motion or with a walking foot, I always start by drawing the bobbin thread to the front of the quilt alongside the needle thread. Then, if using a walking foot, I take about 5-6 stitches forward, then reverse the same so I can anchor the thread and do the same at the end of each row. If I am free-motion quilting, I will take 3-4 stitches in place and then move forward about 2-3 stitches and the same in reverse and do the same when stopping that line of quilting, You could check your tension on a scrap piece of quilt sandwich to make sure that's not the problem. I'm sure you'll be able to figure out the problem soon. Don't lose heart!
