I loved this project! Using Kristin's updated blog post with alternate measurements, I adapted this one to be a bit bigger (added 1.5 inches to the height of the bottom front panel & lining, subtracted .5 inches from the top front panel & lining, added 1 inch to back panel & lining). It measures 9" x 6" with the slightly different measurements, perfect for my book postcards and business cards to ...Read full instructions »

Materials
I used Melody Miller's Viewmasters from her Ruby Star Rising collection, lined with Rashida Coleman-Hale's Tsuru cranes (the little tab is also Tsuru). I also used a vintage "Bermuda Sea" Coats & Clark zipper. I LOVE IT!!
What was your inspiration?
I needed a bag for my Modern Log Cabin Quilting book postcards, PMQG business cards, and moo craft writer cards for Quiltcon. I love Melody Miller's fabric but have never been able to cut into it, it feels so cool and precious. This was the PERFECT way to use a little bit of a super special fabric that I will see all the time and can totally enjoy. Rashida's Tsuru cranes were the perfect match to line it, and they make me happy every time I open the bag.
What are you most proud of?
I forgot to add the D-ring to the tab/strap until I had turned the bag right side out, and went back in, carefully opened the layers, added the D-ring, and re-stitched it all. I'm so glad I did, I've clipped the extra strap on several times and it makes it super useful as a clutch purse!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Use a 1/4-inch foot for the top-stitching after you sew the zipper in. I LOVE my 1/4-inch foot for top-stitching, it's so nice to use a smaller one and not a big wide presser foot.
