Victorian Shadowbox Card

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Paper Crafts

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Women

Style: Traditional, Romantic, Classic, Victorian / Steampunk

Materials

Victorian Shadowbox Card (4.75 x 6.25): Base card created by bonding florist's foil paper to basic kraft cardstock using Elmer's spray adhesive. Suede accent paper by The Paper Company. Oval cutout produced with Fiskars Oval shape cutting template ("orange") and Ultra Shape Express circular blade. Large pop dots were added underneath the top layer in order to create the shadowbox effect and a piece of white vellum inside the shadowbox accents the flower bouquet. Gold accent beads by Reflections for Michaels. Offray ribbon. Silk flowers and stems by The Card Collection.

What was your inspiration?

The idea of creating a greeting card that could later become a personal keepsake for the recipient. It has been labeled as a decor project because it's suitable for framing.

What are you most proud of?

The fact that the end result totally exceeded my initial vision.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

It is best if you work on this project in stages as each step can be rather time and labor intensive. Be patient, especially with the paper bonding since it can get messy (wearing a pair of surgical gloves helps)! To stabilize the top layer, bond the suede paper to cardstock prior to cutting out the oval window. Use crafters tweezers to apply the individual gold beads, and *tiny* dots of Diamond Glaze or a similar product for adhesion.
