What was your inspiration?
I recently took an Art Quilting class through OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) at the University of Southern Maine. We experimented with various art quilting techniques and I loved it! I made this small art quilt for my mother's 77th birthday. It is a photo of her mother taken around 1920. My grandmother's favorite colors of gray and pink were my greatest inspiration. I believe this project is something she would have appreciated.
What are you most proud of?
I printed the image on Lutradur using Artist Transfer Paper. I had never done this before and was pleased with the result. Lutradur is somewhat transparent, so I used crayons to color on the back of the image to tint the cheeks and lips. The effect was quite nice!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Don't be inhibited! There are no rules in art quilting, so anything goes! Relax and have fun.
