one sheet of grass green felt, green ribbon, one ceramic hand-made heart-shaped button from Incomparable Buttons (http://buttonmad.com/index.html)
What was your inspiration?
As quite often these last weeks, someone asked me for some Peter Pan collars, so I got out all my tissues and sheets of felt and got to work. This was actually the first collar I've made, as it is the easiest one to make - no need for sewing, just some dexterity to cut out an even edge. I remembered I had some very pretty heart-shaped buttons I had bought once and which were so pretty I had a hard time parting with. I thought it looked great on this project.
What are you most proud of?
I'm actually proudest of the buttons, even though they're not of my making. These buttons and many other pretty ones are made by a small community of women in Johannesburg, South Africa. They are manufactured from a mixture of ceramic and stoneware clay and they are exposed to high temperatures a number of times to make them highly resistant and even machine washable and dry cleanable. They're just lovely for any project you might have. Find them here http://buttonmad.com/index.html
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
If you don't have the patience for making your own Peter Pan collar, get one from a shirt pattern or a collared blouse from a sewing book or magazine. Or try looking one up on Internet.
