Instructions

This pattern was a mystery quilt project designed by a Facebook friend as a fund raiser for the Susan G. Komen race in August, 2012. The designer posted the pattern for all the contributors to the race that wanted to participate in the mystery quilt project.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Men

Style: Classic

Materials

U.S. Military Marines Allover Emblems Black by Springs Creative Industries Let Freedom Ring Words Cream by Kensington Studio for Quilting Treasures American Valor Fabric for Red Rooster Michael Miller Fairy Frost Onyx

What was your inspiration?

The inspiration was a young Marine Corps Corporal who was injured by an IED in Afghanistan. He is getting a new home and I made the quilt as a house warming gift for him. I'm working to meet up with him and his mother to present it to him.

What are you most proud of?

Being able to use the design to create this for a proud member of our Armed Forces.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Make sure you measure and sew your seams carefully so that they align exactly. This was my first quilt and I spent a lot of time redoing my stitching so the seams aligned. Very crucial when doing "Stitch in the Ditch". Have fun with it and experiment with fabrics. I'm working on a second one for a friend who is battling breast cancer.

Thanks, I had an email from Shannon this morning and she was thrilled you wanted the pattern. She said you can get it on patternspot.com and search for shannonmac or you can email or Facebook her. The pattern is called Stepping Stones. The fabric I used is available at a number of websites and most had all branches of the military.

Where can we get the pattern? I looked on Facebook and couldn't find the pattern that you referenced above. Thanks!

Thank you. I've had one family member in the Marines, one in the Navy, 4 in the Army and one in the Coast Guard, but my first love has always been the Marines.
