Sewing: updated Raggedy Anns
47 kudoz

updated Raggedy Anns

with p-tails

Instructions

I made my own pattern for this.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Toy

For: Children

Style: Retro / Vintage, Whimsical, Cute, Classic, Traditional

Materials

light weight velour & cotton

What was your inspiration?

I wanted an updated Raggedy Ann that was 3 dimensional not 2 like the original.

The nose is safety-locked and the lips & mouth are appliques & embroidered.
The hair is rooted in.

What are you most proud of?

It came out really cute.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Make it sturdy enough to go through the washer & drier.

She is so cute! My older sister once made my twin sister Raggedy Ann Dolls for Christmas one year. Several years ago, I bought a Raggedy Ann Doll pattern and started it to make for my twin sister's little girls. Well, I'm just a beginner sewer really so I may need my older sister's help to finish them if the fabric is still okay. I love this one and I think I will have to show my older sister your projects. She's the one who told me about this site. Thanks for sharing! Valerie

babies are attracted to the bright colors and big smile, so as long as you do that you can't go wrong, don't forget to tell the girls you put love inside

Thanks for the thumbs up! She's my own design but you could adapt any 3D doll pattern. SewSweetDolls has several and Vogue has one.

I can only congratulate you to this beautiful doll. As NiceThreads noted, I too have made one over 30 years ago for my son and being back in Switzerland I made one a couple of years ago for a little neighbouring girl. The reaction and excitement now and then is still the same!

Thank you. When I had babies in the crib I would have a Raggedy Ann against the wall, held in place by the crib so that she was smiling down on the baby. The babies really responded to the bright colors & big smile, it seemed to be calming for them.
