Instructions

I just upcycled a women's button front corduroy dress into a dress for my 9 year old daughter. I used size 8 pattern pieces for the bodice. Then just cut off a section of the skirt using the same hem and gathered it to fit the bodice. The sleeves from the original dress were removed and reconfigured to fit.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Children

Style: Cute, Casual

Materials

Corduroy

What was your inspiration?

Daughter had outgrown all of her fall/winter dresses and needed a new dress.

What are you most proud of?

That I was able to upcycle a dowdy thrift shop find into a wearable warm dress for my daughter.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Took me some planning to make sure that I had enough fabric to cut out all the pieces. I cut facings out wrong and so ran out of fashion fabric for facing and had to use cotton quilting fabric. I did not use any interfacing or lining because the fabric was thick enough on its own.

Smart way to recycle. Isn't it amazing how much money you save by sewing? Good job :-)
