My BOM Fabrics

What was your inspiration?

Once I got 14 blocks done -- I realized that some of my fabrics, though appearing in the quilt, really needed to be showcased. So, instead of doing the blocks I really disliked (the pointy and spikey ones) I designed a block that would allow me to showcase three fabrics in one block, and then I chose to highlight the 12 fabrics that had gotten short shrift. I love how these blocks really bring everything together! Especially since I have TWO background fabrics. These blocks will be essential in producing a quilt that looks like it is One With Itself. ;-)

What are you most proud of?

That I realized I needed to showcase these fabrics and then figured out how to do it, and it turned out better than I'd imagined.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun. Take risks. Do what you want! Learn a ton!

I love this Alyx! You've obviously put a lot of thought and created a beautiful answer to the challenge. Makes me wish I had enough fabric to do the same thing with my 1st colorway. As is this could help with my BW&R since I've used more than one background.... Thanks for sharing, And LOVE this block!

Thanks! When I put all the blocks I had done on a huge design board (at a Beach Retreat with 19 other seamsters) I realized I had several fabrics that were in the quilt, but had gotten short shrift. I wanted to highlight them to unify the whole piece. I'm very happy with how these blocks turned out. There will be one in each column. I'm thinking we'll have four colums of five rows each. That's probably right, you think?

Yep- Pretty sure she said 4 columns of 5 early on.. I'm really inspired to take this approach now. You're really inspiring me to make my quilts "my own"!

Checked the Supplies list - if I did my math right its definitely 4 X 5. Allowing for the sashing the width comes to 4 blocks, the length 5.
