Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this piece. I sketched the palms from a photo I had taken at Daintree Rainforest, far Nth Queensland Australia. Then, used a pen nib, bamboo nib, watercolour brush dipped in waterproof ink. Finally, adding a wash of colours from my Winsor Newton watercolour pan.

This is just the sort of painting that I was hoping to achieve from the course. My dilemma is, do I paint first then ink or the other way round? It is encouraging to see your study linked to the class and to see how you progress using Matt Rota's technique. I'm into sewing for now, so my painting projects will have to wait, but your work is inspiring, so maybe I will start painting again sooner rather than later. Thank you so much for the encouragement, and keep posting your pen and ink watercolours they are great.

Thanks Teresa! I did the sketch, then used ink and nib pen to do the outline. Watercolour was applied afterwards. If you use ink, prior to water colour it gives the illustration neat and clean lines. If you apply ink and nib, after the watercolour wash- the sketch lines may not be so clean.

the perspective on this is great! it makes me feel like I'm viewing the world from a little tiny bugs perspective. I also like that you showed images of your process.

Love love love the colors that you used! I can see the sun coming through the leaves which is very hard to capture. Well done!
