Materials

Loralie Breast Cancer Fabric Panel, Rainbow of Pink Fabric, buttons, lace

What was your inspiration?

This was our 1st quilt and we want it to be special. I had loralie's fabric panel for breast cancer only so I decided to use other pink fabric that represent love and caring. I use the pieces of fabric panels as pockets so they could be filled with goodies.

What are you most proud of?

All the goodies chosen was to keep a child occupied during treatment.
We had a scarf, tote bag and the quilt was filled with books, pens, candy, and even an ipod for them to listen to. The ladies where kept quite busy sewing on the buttons on each of the fabric pockets and the stories they were telling filled the room with hope.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Start with wide strips of fabric which you will need two of with the exception of the middle panel. Co-ordinate the fabric matching on each side of the middle panel. Put the larger pockets at the top of the quilt so when the child is reaching for something is is close to them. I used two matching fabrics to create the border that had the green and pink in them and make it blend all together. Once this is sewn together, look in your stash box to see what you can embellish the quilt with. Plain buttons where used to sew on each corner of the pocket. Make sure you have enough buttons to create the same look both sides of the quilt. We use buttons that look like lips on it as well as a dollie with bears having tea. Just have fun but make sure everything is balanced and you will have a great quilt that someone will cherish
