What materials did you use? Goal: 2nd practice quilt on long arm machine. Materials: Recycled 2 mis-matched bed sheets purchased at Goodwill--yellow tag sale 50% off. Cotton batting. Yellow/orange cotton binding.

What are you most proud of? Practice is going well. Quilting is faster that the first practice quilt. Stitch tension is improved. Thread breaking less often. I'm trying several thread brands and weights. Most of it is still a mystery to me. I think I'm getting it. Awesome? Well, I can't really say. This is so new to me, I don't know if I'm kidding myself that the finished quilt is handsome. But, I like it. Right now, I'm just practicing.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? 10 FOOT TEST: I auditioned quilt binding for this quilt. Each color I reviewed from a distance of 10 ft. away. I tried reds and they were just so so. But, when I viewed the Yellow Orange--I could see immediately it was perfect. It really popped! Viewing both choices up close--I would have "settled" for either the red or the orange yellow, but there really is a visual advantage to use the 10 FOOT TEST. Give it a try.

Your long arm quilting technique looks pretty terrific to me! I am really getting ambitious today with all the great posts of the last 24 hours alone. Thank you for sharing your advice about the 10 foot test too!

Abanabana, I love finding you on Shoestring's posts! Two of my best cyber friends in one place at the same time! It's a party!

Shoestring, you are quilting circles around the rest of us! Your skills are growing minute by minute! Look at those perfectly even stitches! The stitch regulator on that machine is one of it's greatest advantages is almost worth the cost of the whole setup. Before you know it you are going to have people begging you to do their quilts. Bet they're lining up already!

Hi there 2strings. It is dreary and raining here today. Great weather for working on a quilt, right? I'm working on parallel universe blocks. Blocks are really time consuming, especially squaring blocks before adding sashing. Ugh. Perhaps the top will be ready to quilt in the next couple of days. It's suppose to rain here all week.

These are adorable! It never occurred to me to use old bed sheets for quilts. It's a great way to up cycle and you can have last minute gifts on hand! The quilting looks lovely to me, a long arm machine is on my list of cool things to buy.

Hi Tanja H. Thanks for your note. Oh yes Tanja--you would be so great at long arm machine quilting with your talents. You aren't afraid to try something different, and make your own styling look like a million bucks. You could make a nice business machine quilting. I visited two shops prior to purchasing my long arm. Both of them have plenty of orders/customers. One shop owner said she was a month behind on orders--and all of her orders are pantograph quilting. Interesting, eh?
