Instructions

No longer available. This was one of many projects offered by Carol Doak in her Yahoo Group on Foundation Paper Piecing. Sometimes she will offer her instructions for sale on her website http://www.caroldoak.com, although for group members they are free as long as it is an ongoing project and you are a group member. This project started Fall, 2011.

Carol Doak pattern; fabrics from stash; So Fine thread

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to be a participant in this project. (Carol often has prizes just for entering photos of your progress!) I also wanted to make use of my stash. I didn't buy any new fabric for this project.

What are you most proud of?

I used some of the information from the Wendy Butler Berns class and other free-motion classes to quilt the top with virtually no marking ahead of time. I did establish some curves for guidance by marking around the bottom of a cone of thread.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Use the walking foot to stabilize along straight lines throughout the quilt before starting the free-motion work. I found that using 505 Spray Baste makes quilting much easier because there is no weight from pins. I spray outdoors and then come inside to smooth the pieces onto the batting. I don't get tucks on the backing when I quilt when I use this method. Don't be afraid to start!!
