Four blocks.
The quilting is a pattern of leaves.

Instructions

Take your time and pin carefully!

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Other

Style: Classic

Materials

Cotton fabrics for patchwork, backing and binding. 50% cotton/bamboo for batting.

What was your inspiration?

This quilt was made for my son's wedding. He and his fiancee live in Northern California, so I wanted the colors to echo the forest (green and brown) and the fog (cream).

What are you most proud of?

How well it all came together!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

The linked pattern is for two colors; I used three, and it made the piecing complicated enough so that I drew lots of colored diagrams to keep track of the pattern as I made the blocks. This is not a difficult quilt pattern, but it is important to take your time in the cutting and piecing so that all the lines meet correctly.

I absolutely love this quilt! I wish I could find this in a Quilt Kit with these colors you have used here!!!! I am no longer able to cut out the material so I always have to find Quilt kits with the pieces already cut out!!! If you ever have this in a Quilt kit please email me at qwilter1@yahoo.com because I would love to have one!!!

I have made three of the blocks and love it. My colors are very simular to yours. Printing out the layout and numbering in order really is a key to getting it right. Then of course the accurate 1/4" seams so everything matches up. Love thanks for sharing!!!

Just print it out, pinkseahorse. It helps to print it as "landscape" orientation instead of "portrait" so the instructions fit better on the page.

Is there another name for this block? When I googled "true lovers' knot" in order to find a set of directions I find a different block (http://www.quiltersclubofamerica.com/groups/sylvias_bridal_sampler/forum/t/7017.aspx) Just curious. Thanks

Okay, I figured it out. Each *finished* block is 18x18, so the finished quilt is 108x108.

Does that measurement include the sashing? And...I looked at the "FREE PATTERN", clicked on the "get .pdf file, and got nothing like I thought. How much material was used in this pattern and where is the diagram that numbers the strips?

Oct 31, 2011   Flag as inappropriate
Polkinan, there is no shashing -- what looks like sashing is made up of the outer rows of each block. I agree that the pattern is tricky -- you do have to do the math, as I did, and your answer will depend entirely on the ending size of the quilt, which determines the size of each block, which in turn determines the width of each row. Look at my answer to Karentim's post, below.

Kimah72, I found the quilt block size by doing more math. I divided the width I wanted by 6 to find the size of the individual blocks (as in Photo #3). Then I counted the strips from the middle of the block (6) and divided the individual block size by the number of strips. It came out to 2" per strip, so I cut the strips 2 1/2 inches wide, for a queen-size quilt. The middle block is 2 1/2 x 2 1/5.
