This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Beginner Serging: Machine Basics & Techniques »

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Traditional, Cute

Materials

quilting cotton, zipper, thread

What was your inspiration?

New serger! Love the Beginner Serging class... And I love bags!

What are you most proud of?

That I still have hair left in my head (ha ha). This was a challenge, but after two zipper rip-outs and a broken needle I'm done! Next one should go together more smoothly.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Make sure the zipper is REALLY long! I tried first with a 14 inch zipper and it didn't give me enough room to slide in from the side. I lfound using a 20 inch zipper.

It's a really a very pretty bag! Remember that I'm here to help, so if the next bag gives you trouble, let me know and we'll figure out what's going on. It's still super cute and I'm glad you stuck with it and finished it. You should be proud!

Looking at your finished bag, one could never tell that you had such difficulties with the zipper at first. It looks great! I buy 22" zippers for ALL of my projects and then cut them to size. I find that long zippers are so much easier to insert (and my fabric store purchases them in bulk and sells them for $0.75 a piece).

Thank you so much! I will keep my eyes open for bargains on long zippers!
