Trees Company

my first attempt at quilting

my first attempt at quilting

Pattern Info

Pattern info for this project can be found here:

Instructions

my mom just showed me how to do the flying geese, but, we made each one a bit bigger till it looked like a tree. I don't remember having any pattern there to follow, she was just showing me the basics of making a quilt.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Classic, Traditional

Materials

Mother's left over cotton cloth

What was your inspiration?

Mother was making a quilt and I thought it would be fun to try my hand at it. Thought this would be the only one I'd ever make. I was just trying to stay busy while putting in time away from home.

What are you most proud of?

That it actually looks like something you can recognize, and not a kindergarten project, like most of my other attempts at anything crafty.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

don't be afraid to just start somewhere. I didn't know i had a talent, or love for quilting till I just started doing it. Also, get some friends who are in different stages of the quilting learning curve, they will help you get past the bumps in the roads, and make your quilting journey much easier than trying to reinvent the wheel every time.

It was SOOO easy! here is a web page, with basically the same pattern on it ( http://quilting.about.com/od/blockofthemonth/ss/christmas_tree.htm ) I did not break up my blocks in the background color, but, it's one continuous block on each side of the tree (not 2 as shown in the pattern)

also, I tried to make a shawdow box around each tree, but, it was our first attempt and neither my mom nor I really knew what we were doing with it, the rest was just measure and sew..no real rhyme or reason to it all

That's so funny! You are quilting "circles" around me and talking about maybe doing Flying geese.... Where, to me, that's the easiest thing...

I love the way you used flying geese in a slightly different way. One day I will try to learn how to make flying geese.
